SANTA FE, Texas (FOX 26) – A shooter is in police custody and another suspect has been detained following a shooting that left multiple people dead and injured at Santa Fe High School.
Between eight to 10 people are dead after shots were fired Friday morning at SFHS, located at 16000 Hwy 6 in Galveston County.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez confirms that the shooter was a student at the school. A person of interest who has been detained is also a student.
Possible explosive devices have been located at the school and off campus.
Santa Fe PD, Galveston County Sheriff’s department, ATF and Harris County Sheriff’s Office are all on the scene.
Ambulances along with LifeFlight have transported victims to local hospitals.
UTMB reports that they are treating three patients, two adults, and one under 18 years old.
Zach Muehe, a sophomore, at the school tells FOX 26 that he saw another student from his football class come into his classroom and start shooting.
Muehe says he then ran to another classroom to alert a teacher to evacuate the school.
He says the teacher then pulled the alarm while evacuating students.
Several people ran from the campus and crossed Highway 6, which has now been closed.
Parents from can pick up their students at the Alamo Gym at 13306 Highway 6. Students are being taken by bus and parents may reunite with their students at this location.
President Donald Trump addressed the incident during a press conference Friday.
“Everyone must work together at every level of government to keep our children safe,” the president said. “May God heal the injured and may God comfort the wounded and may God be with the victims and with the victims’ families. Very sad day. Very, very sad … To the students, families, teachers, and personnel at Santa Fe High, we’re with you in this tragic hour and we’re with you forever.”
Santa Fe High School made headlines earlier this year after a lockdown was set in place when people heard “popping noises” outside the campus.
